Reflections Paused
11 Artworksby Bill Boxer
These photographs explore the shifting reflections that appear on the surface of moving water. Trees, sky, and surrounding light are constantly reorganized by the motion of the current, creating patterns that exist only for a fraction of a second. The images are made by observing flowing water and using the camera to interrupt that movement at a precise instant. Because the surface never truly stops moving, what appears in the frame cannot be completely predicted. Some elements align as imagined, while others emerge through chance. Each photograph becomes a record of a moment that existed only briefly — a small fragment of time where motion, light, and reflection are momentarily held in place. In holding these fleeting moments still, the photographs become quiet reminders of how quickly time passes, and how much can be seen when we pause long enough to notice.
