Pretty Enough to Be Ignored

Three female profiles inhabit an ornate black-and-gold surface. Two nearly disappear into the wallpaper-like patterns, while the third emerges, still carrying traces of the ornament across her face. Built through layers of mixed media, oil glazes and oil pastels, the painting plays with the uncomfortable idea of a woman becoming part of the décor — admired for her beauty, yet overlooked as a person.
