Mid-existence

This photo confronts the instability of gendered identity within a religious and ideological context where bodies are strictly regulated. In Iran, physical appearance, gestures, and expressions of desire are subject to surveillance, censorship, and moral control. The body becomes a site of resistance. Desire exists here beyond binary structures and beyond the systems that attempt to discipline, categorize, and contain it.
