Enrico Basta

Enrico Basta was born in August 1980 in a small Baroque town in Puglia, Italy. He initially studied economics, but soon realized that his true vocation lay elsewhere. At the age of nineteen, he began studying oil painting techniques and developed a classical, hyperrealistic style, which earned him first prize in a local competition for young artists. In 2003, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lecce. During his studies, his work gradually moved away from traditional representation toward a more dreamlike and experimental language. After graduating, he moved to Berlin, where he continues to live and work. In Berlin, Basta definitively abandoned objective representation, turning instead toward a more material, instinctive, and expressive exploration of painting. His artistic research extends beyond the visual arts: to date, he has published three collections of poetry, which run parallel to and complement his pictorial practice.
